Post harvest and Upcoming Holidays

This month, with the holidays on our doorstep, we wanted to give you a few ideas about which of our wines to pair perfectly with the flavors of the season. Former Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard has been known to pull out the Magician Riesling for her Thanksgiving table, NPH has an obvious bias to The Conjurer, and we think Spiders From Mars Syrah is an amazing pairing—lucky you, it’s on special this month! We also wanted to recap our incredible harvest this year with a few thoughts about the 2021 vintage, so read on!

The harvest of 2021 will be remembered for the early budbreak and flowering, as well as the extreme heat in late June and early July. Yields were down significantly (30% for us) due to the smaller clusters and smaller berries. During berry development in late June, the 10 days of 100+ degree weather had a huge impact on final berry size. In the end, these reduced yields gave us very concentrated wines, with ample tannin and color, as well as some of the most explosive flavors that we can remember coming out of the fermenters. Jerry threw out the prediction that these will be the best wines we have ever made. Regardless, there is no doubt this will be an awesome vintage, and we can’t wait to see these wines develop in barrel over the next 12-24 months.
