Restaurant Relief

A message from Trey, Jerry, and Keith.

The Washington Wine community is more than just the wineries and its employees. It's also our customers, whether they be direct to consumer, retail, or restaurants. Without them, we would have no industry. As COVID-19 has turned all of our worlds upside down, no industry has suffered like the restaurant world. And as always, the Washington Wine industry will rally around our partners as best we can, to ensure that there WILL be a restaurant scene in Washington when this is all over.

The team at Sleight of Hand wants to do its part as well. A large part of our success over the past 13 years is due to the exposure that our wines have received in many of the restaurants around Washington State. And a good number of restaurants are doing everything they can to survive. That is why we bottled up 300 cases of a special wine that we call "Restaurant Relief". Over the next 2 weeks, our sales team will be headed out to drop off a few cases at each of our restaurant partners businesses. Because we are not allowed to donate this wine, we are charging them our cost for the case. Our hope is that they then use the funds collected from glass pouring this wine to distribute back to their employees who have also been impacted by COVID-19, as well as cover other expenses.

The way we see it is that if these restaurants don't survive, many Washington wineries will be negatively impacted. We want a THRIVING restaurant and wine community when we come out of this. So if this gesture helps even just a couple of restaurants keep their lights on, then we feel good about that.

The 2019 Restaurant Relief Wine is 100% Lewis Vineyard Syrah that normally goes into our Reserve Syrah called Levitation. After putting the final blend together for the Levitation, we had about 300 cases of Lewis left over and decided to bottle that separately for this project. As you know, Lewis is one of the premier Syrah sites in Washington State, and single vineyard bottlings sell from $60-75/bottle (including one of the wines that we make, called Light Years).
